What to look for in a nursing work bag
A nursing work bag should make your day easier to organize, not give you one more thing to juggle. Start with what you actually carry, how you get to work, and what your workplace allows.

Start with your own everyday carry
Lay out what you bring for a typical shift: perhaps your keys, wallet, badge, notebook, charger, water bottle, and a change of clothes. Your list will be different from someone else’s. Separate must-haves from the items that tend to collect at the bottom of your bag.
Keep clinical equipment and workplace supplies according to your employer’s policies. A personal tote is not a substitute for approved clinical storage.
Choose organization you can adjust
Think about what you reach for often and what you want tucked away. A secure pocket can give smaller personal items a designated place, while a removable divider lets you change the layout as your day changes. The Shift Tote includes both a removable divider and a secure zip pocket.
Give your water bottle a place
A dedicated bottle pocket can help you avoid searching through the main compartment for your drink. The Shift Tote has hidden bottle pockets on both sides. Check your own bottle’s size before assuming a fit, and close its lid securely before packing.
Look at dimensions, not just the photograph
The Shift Tote measures 17 inches long, 11 inches tall, and 6 inches deep at the side. Compare those measurements with your current bag and the space you have available at work.

Bag dimensions alone don’t confirm that a particular laptop, lunch container, or bottle will fit. Openings, internal pockets, and protective cases all affect usable space. For a specific fit question, ask us before ordering.
Consider how you carry it
Think through the walk from your car, your commute, and the stops you make after a shift. The Shift Tote has a detachable crossbody strap so you have another carrying option. Pack only what you need rather than treating extra space as a reason to add weight.
Know what the material does—and doesn’t promise
The Shift Tote is made with soft-touch recycled nylon, a magnetic sack-top closure, and brushed-gold hardware. It is a personal work and everyday bag, not clinical equipment. We don’t claim that it is waterproof, disinfectant-safe, or suitable for sterile areas. Follow your workplace’s rules for personal belongings.
Why we started with nurses
Mask & Cape began after Christian Aquino’s mom, a dialysis nurse, slipped on ice in February while carrying at least four bags. She wasn’t hurt, but the moment sparked a question: could one thoughtfully designed bag help with everything these everyday heroes carry?
Almost a year of designing and sourcing led to a small manufacturer in Bataan, Philippines, whose care matched ours. As orders grew, the shop hired more people. A portion of profits helps people in need in the Philippines. Read our full story.
